Dictee by Theresa Hak Kyung ChaTanam Press (1982)
A sort of underground cult book that is now a favourite of scholars and experimental writers of various kinds. This is not a translation, but Cha’s concern for language — or more accurately the struggle to speak, the suffering necessary to make one speak — is something I think Asymptote readers would enjoy. A remarkable book of great importance.
